12V, 24V, or 48V: compare the complete lighting design

TruLight publishes a 48V system. Other permanent-lighting products use different voltages. That number can inform the wiring discussion, but it does not prove that one fixture is brighter, cooler, or more reliable. Lifetime Lights can discuss the equipment and layout proposed for your Arizona home.

Power and current differ

For the same power, a higher voltage corresponds to lower current. That comparison holds the load constant; it is not a claim that every higher-voltage product uses less energy.

Length matters

The required cable size, load, and distance affect the design. Do not borrow a universal injection interval from another home or product.

Equipment conditions matter

Ask for the operating limits of the actual lights, controller, and supply. A bus voltage alone does not establish an outdoor or temperature rating.

A small numerical example

At a hypothetical 120-watt load, dividing power by voltage gives 10 amps at 12 volts, 5 amps at 24 volts, or 2.5 amps at 48 volts. This is an arithmetic illustration, not a TruLight product specification or an installation design. Real equipment, wire length, protection, and loading still need to be evaluated together.

Turn the number into a quote question

Ask where power enters the layout, what additional supplies or connections are required, and how they remain accessible. A long front elevation and several disconnected sections may have different needs even at the same voltage. For an Arizona property, have the installer explain equipment placement within its stated operating conditions. Do not infer a heat or safety guarantee from 48V alone.

Ask the installer for the design, not just a voltage

  • The equipment model and rated operating conditions.
  • The cable routes and any additional power connections.
  • Accessible locations for serviceable components.
  • The white-light result at your intended brightness.

Questions before you choose

Does higher voltage automatically mean more brightness?

No. Output depends on the fixture and its operating power, among other factors. Compare the actual lights under comparable conditions.

Is the 120-watt example my home's electricity use?

No. It only illustrates the relationship between power, voltage, and current. Your system's consumption depends on the equipment and settings.
