Choose when the normal evening scene begins and ends. Review the behavior you want during an arrival, separate from decorative holiday settings.

Check the walking surface, not just the wall
Roofline lights are above the places you use, and an overhang or parked vehicle can leave shadows below. Walk the route from your car to the door and note steps or changes in level. Some areas may need a different fixture or an existing light kept in service. The lighting discussion should identify those gaps before you remove anything.
View the camera image with the lights on
A camera can show glare differently from your eyes. After adjusting a scene, check its live view for bright reflections and dark areas. Do not assume more output improves the image. Aim for a setting that helps you see the approach while preserving usable detail near the entrance.
Define how motion should change the scene
If your proposal includes motion equipment, ask what happens when someone enters the detection area: which lights change, for how long, and what setting returns afterward. Confirm how that behavior interacts with your normal timer. This is an equipment and configuration decision, not a guarantee about alarms, monitoring, or camera compatibility.
Walk the property after dark
- Identify shadows along the arrival route.
- Check glare from neighboring windows and cameras.
- List existing lights that must remain in place.
- Ask for any motion hardware and setup to be itemized.
